April 1, 2002 - Jeff and Mary submit a 15-page affidavit to an FBI Special Counsel and the Public Safety Division of the Missouri Attorney General. The affidavit has 93 exhibits, including ten supporting affidavits. The FBI Special Counsel forwards the affidavit to the Public Corruption Unit and terminates contact with Jeff and Mary. A Public Safety Division Investigator tells Jeff and Mary that their civil rights have been violated, and that the MO AG will work with the Department of Justice to address these violations. Then the investigator is taken off the case, and the MO AG does not respond to Jeff and Mary's follow-up phone calls and letters for seven months. Then the Lieutenant Governor's Office tells Jeff and Mary that the MO AG will not speak to them and has closed their case.
May 25, 2002 - In order to protest bigotry in the Ozarks, Jeff and Mary join civil rights activist Rosemary Stewart-Stafford in picketing a Pete Peters' Christian Identity rally at the Clarion Hotel in Branson, Missouri. Christian Identity is a cult that uses biblical distortions to promote hate and violence against Jews, Blacks, and gays. The Black guests at the Clarion are alarmed to learn that they are sharing the hotel with white supremacists. Some of Peters' followers taunt Jeff and Mary and tell Stafford that she is not human, because she is part-Black. Religion Editor, Linda Leicht, interviews Jeff and Mary and writes an article about the rally in the May 26, 2002, Springfield News-Leader.
June 1, 2002 - Jeff and Mary launch this website and continue to collect affidavits from victims of the Ozarks.
June 26, 2002 - The Barry County Advertiser states that "Missouri continues to be the number one producer of methamphetamine in the country." Jeff and Mary's problems began in Eagle Rock, which is in Barry County. Eagle Rock should be renamed Legal Crock. Victims of the Missouri Ozarks should understand that all of the corruption is coordinated in Springfield, Missouri, which should be renamed Minefield, Missouri.
August 3, 2002 - Jeff and Mary attend a ceremony in Springfield's public square, dedicated to three innocent Black men who were lynched there in 1906. This lynching led to a mass exodus of Blacks from Springfield, leaving behind a small downtrodden Black population in the sixth whitest city of the U.S. Unfortunately, the ceremony did not mention that a 1906 Grand Jury found that the police were to blame for the lynching. It took Springfield 95 years to reluctantly, incompletely accept responsibility for its racist history. How long will it take Springfield to fully accept responsibility for its racist present?
August 12, 2002 - Jeff and Mary join Rod Roberson and Cheryl Fischer in addressing the Springfield City Council to document police abuse and request a Civilian Review Board. The members of the City Council remain silent, except for some coughing, choking, and giggling. Roberson and Fischer are long-time civil rights activists in Springfield. Fischer directs The Kuumba Human Rights Focus Group.
August 16, 2002 - The Aurora Advertiser has a paid advertisement from David Duke and an Ozarker. The ad uses sick humor to promote hate and violence against Jews, Blacks, and Hispanics. The Advertiser defends its publication of the ad by describing the Ozarker as kind, polite, friendly, and needing prayer. Does the Advertiser know that Dr. Josef Mengele was called the "Angel of Death," because he was so kind and polite to his victims? Does the Advertiser pray for the victims of prejudice? Aurora, 32 miles southwest of Springfield, is in Lawrence County, which borders Barry County.
August 30, 2002 - U.S. Congressman Roy Blunt, of southwest Missouri, announces a new DEA initiative in Springfield, designed to reduce drug trafficking and demand. In 1998, Jeff and Mary asked Blunt to address their problems with anti-Semitism, fraud, drugs, and corruption -- but he refused. Is Roy Blunt a GOBO?
October 2, 2002 - Leonard Gakinya, 27, a Black man from Kenya, is found hanging from a radio tower near the public square, where Springfield recently commemorated the 1906 lynching of three innocent Black men. The hanging death is ruled a suicide, despite the fact that Gakinya had a large bruise on his forehead, and that the tower is difficult to climb and an unlikely place for a suicide. There is an investigation, but will it be the usual cover-up?
October 3-6, 2002 - Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia, holds an international conference, "Lynching and Racial Violence in America: Histories and Legacies," in conjunction with the exhibit "Without Sanctuary," horrifying photos of lynchings in 20th century America.
October 5, 2002 - Emory University writes a letter to Attorney General Ashcroft demanding that he personally supervise a complete and thorough investigation of Leonard Gakinya's "suspicious death." The letter calls upon Ashcroft to fight "racially motivated domestic terrorism" and states that "Springfield remains notorious as a hub of white supremacist activity." The media do not publish the letter, and Ashcroft does not respond to it. Click here to read Emory University letter to Ashcroft.
October 10, 2002 - Attorney General Ashcroft visits Springfield and tells KY3 News, "Janet and I still consider Springfield, Missouri, the place we'd rather be than any other place in the world. We believe that in a lot of ways Springfield is our home. It represents our home philosophically. The values expressed in this community we believe are the values that really sustain America and sustain us. We're Missourians. We've spent most of our lives here, most of our lives together, almost all of it, here. And so when we come home to be with our friends, to be on the land, and where we feel most comfortable, that's a nourishing and enriching thing." Is John Ashcroft a GOBO? Is Janet Ashcroft a GOGO?
October 12, 2002 - Jeff is interviewed on KOPN's "Straight Talk," a Columbia, Missouri, community radio show with host Wynna Faye Elbert and Columbia Council Representative, Almeta Crayton. Jeff discusses Leonard Gakinya's suspicious death and Springfield's history of racism. Jeff and Mary were referred to Wynna Faye and Almeta by Kenya of KenyaSpeaks.com.
October 19, 2002 - On KOPN's "Straight Talk," Jeff discusses Ozarkopathy.org and governmental neglect of racism in the Ozarks. Jeff says that he and Mary have learned a painful lesson about civil rights that most white people take for granted.
November 4, 2002 - Southwest Missouri State University's Crime and Society Forum hosts guest speaker, Dr. William Chambliss, author of On the Take. Dr. Chambliss, a prominent criminologist, explains that America's War on Drugs is full of ignorance, bigotry, and corruption. This helps to explain why Missouri's War on Meth is so ineffective, and why Jeff and Mary can't get justice in southwest Missouri, which is notorious for meth.
November 12, 2002 - Hundreds of angry citizens present testimony to a State Panel about the Missouri Division of Family Services in Springfield. The Governor appointed the Panel to investigate complaints about DFS, including the murder of two-year-old biracial Dominic James. Jeff and Mary have interviewed DFS victims who report that the agency is bigoted and corrupt. The Panel reports that DFS is "dysfunctional and needs to be fixed" -- but the Panel does not discuss the bigotry and corruption of DFS. Now the Governor needs to appoint panels to investigate all the other state agencies -- and a special panel just for the Ozarks! Since the Governor is from the Ozarks, is he a GOBO?
November 14, 2002 - SMSU hosts guest speaker Barbara Trent, producer of "The Panama Deception." Trent is an independent documentary filmmaker who exposes media and government corruption. In her lecture, she criticizes George Bush's plans to attack Iraq and advises people to join the peace movement. The audience responds with a standing ovation.
November 18, 2002 - Jeff and Mary attend DEA Administrator Asa Hutchinson's lecture at SMSU. Hutchinson is in Springfield to promote his new program called IDEA -- Integrated Drug Enforcement Assistance -- which is DEA's attempt to redefine and revive its failing War on Drugs. Jeff and Mary make the following statement to Hutchinson: "Criminologist, William Chambliss, documented that America's War on Drugs is full of ignorance, bigotry, and corruption. Investigative journalist, Charles Bowden, reported on the corruption surrounding the murder of a top DEA agent's brother in El Paso, Texas. The career of investigative journalist, Gary Webb, was destroyed after he reported on drug trafficking and corruption in the government. The career of Hector Berrellez, 'the Eliot Ness of the DEA,' was destroyed after he complained about drug trafficking and corruption in the government. Berrellez said, 'There ain't no f-cking war on drugs.' Missouri is the number one producer of methamphetamine, but many people believe that Missouri's War on Meth is full of corruption. Sir, would you please discuss the scope of drug corruption in the United States and tell us who is responsible for investigating and prosecuting drug corruption in southwest Missouri?" Hutchinson answers that corruption in the drug war is minimal, and that the government is very aggressive against corruption. But he does not specify who is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of drug corruption. Ten weeks after his lecture at SMSU, Hutchinson leaves DEA to join the Dept. of Homeland Security. By the way, Hutchinson is from northwest Arkansas, which is part of the Ozarks. Is Asa Hutchinson a GOBO?
November 23, 2002 - Jeff and Mary find that their U.S. Post Office Box has been tampered with and broken. The Postmaster files a report that lists "no suspects" and the Postal Inspector conducts no investigation.
December 6, 2002 - With typical Ozark double-talk, SMSU includes sexual orientation when seeking accreditation, but excludes sexual orientation when establishing policy. SMSU Faculty Senate votes to include sexual orientation, but SMSU President, John Keiser, objects and states, "I will never recommend that." With the exception of Professor Holly Baggett, the SMSU faculty does not confront Keiser. However, SMSU students form an activist group called S.O.A.P. (Sexual Orientation Action Project) and demonstrate against Keiser. Is John Keiser a GOBO?
December 14, 2002 - The Trent Lott brouhaha about segregation never mentions Lott's high-level membership in a segregated fraternity called the Masons. The Black version of the Masons is Prince Hall, which many whites do not regard as legitimate. The Masons are a wealthy, powerful, secret organization that includes presidents, senators, congressmen, and governors. Its members are required to take a blood oath to protect fellow Masons, even in cases of murder and treason. In England, public officials who belong to secret organizations, such as the Masons, have to disclose their membership. Why don't we have that in the U.S.? Let's ask our public officials and media to pursue this issue and root out cronyism in the government. Click here for a 1999 Masonic VIP list.
December 26, 2002 - Jim Thomas begins publishing his cartoons about Missouri on Ozarkopathy.org. Thomas and his friend, Randall Cali, are victims of the Missouri Division of Family Services (DFS) and government cover-ups. For the past ten years, Thomas and Cali have fought valiantly to rescue Cali's daughter from the clutches of DFS and from the corruption in southwest Missouri. Judge Thomas McGuire, who was also the Grand Master of the Missouri Masons, called Cali a "wop bastard" in the courtroom. Is Thomas McGuire a GOBO?
December 29, 2002 - "Cruel Site of the Day" lists Ozarkopathy.org on cruel.com and calls Missouri "The Kill-Me State."
January 2, 2003 - Jeff and Mary's neighbor, Bob, who threatened to kill them, tries to drive them off the road. Jeff and Mary report the incident to the police, the State, and the FBI -- but receive no response. Is Bob a GOBO?
February 6, 2003 - A man who moved to the Ozarks posted Ozarkopathy on HomesteadingToday.com. Two weeks later, this man's truck mysteriously set on fire. He is frightened and believes that the fire was deliberately set in response to his posting Ozarkopathy.
February 9, 2003 - Jeff and Mary propose that Missouri be renamed Meth-ouri, in honor of Missouri's secret industry. Jeff and Mary hope you enjoy their wordplay as much as Meth-ouri enjoys its contraband.
February 24, 2003 - Jeff and Mary file a pro se civil RICO petition. RICO is an acronym that stands for Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations.
March 2, 2003 - The Springfield News-Leader states that the Ozarks are "Missouri's economic engine." The article praises the Ozarks' real estate, tourism, health care, and job opportunities. But the article does not mention that the Ozarks are the meth capital of the U.S. Perhaps the secret ingredient in "Missouri's economic engine" is meth'n'all.
March 12, 2003 - Jeff and Mary attend a pre-trial hearing for their pro se civil RICO lawsuit. The judge tells them that the caption of their petition didn't name all the parties. Then the judge recuses himself, because of a conflict of interest. Now Jeff and Mary have to wait for a new judge to be assigned to their case.
March 13, 2003 - The Springfield News-Leader reports that Missouri leads the country in meth lab seizures and describes the meth problem in Missouri as "endemic" and "epidemic." The article praises Missouri's efforts at education and regulation, but does not mention drug corruption, which is also endemic and epidemic in Missouri. One area that is particularly afflicted with meth is the Mark Twain National Forest. Perhaps it should be renamed the "Narc Tweak National Forest."
March 14, 2003 - Jeff and Mary review the suspicious hanging death of Leonard Gakinya, including the physical autopsy and a subsequent "psychological autopsy," and uncover several inconsistencies: 1) The Death Certificate states that the autopsy was performed by Dr. Shelley, but the Medical Examiner's office told Jeff that the autopsy was performed by Dr. Anderson. 2) The psychological autopsy was performed by Dr. White, a prison psychologist, who was hired by the police, not by the minority community. 3) White never reviewed the physical autopsy or asked an independent pathologist to review the autopsy. 4) White never commented about the fact that Gakinya's mother saw a bruise on her son's head, but the physical autopsy did not report any bruise. 5) White never commented about the pervasive racism and prejudice in Springfield. 6) Is White aware that the Springfield NAACP is afraid to make waves? 7) How can White separate Gakinya's psychological profile from Springfield's sociological profile? 8) Since Springfield hired an outside psychologist to review the facts, why didn't Springfield hire an outside pathologist to do the autopsy? Despite all these inconsistencies, White concluded that Gakinya's death was a suicide, not a homicide. The moral of this story is that it's not safe to live - or die - in Springfield, Missouri.
March 18, 2003 - In "Lost in the Jihad," an article in the 3/10/03 issue of The New Yorker, Jane Mayer reports on the fallout from the John Walker Lindh case. Jesselyn Radack, an attorney in the internal-ethics unit of the Justice Department, blew the whistle on John Ashcroft's violations of the rules of federal procedure. Then Radack received a "blistering" performance review, was advised to quit her job, and became the target of a "criminal investigation." Ashcroft's gestapo tactics with Lindh and Radack are reminiscent of Jeff and Mary's nightmare in the Ozarks. Is John Ashcroft Ozarkifying the Justice Department? Click here to read the article.
March 28, 2003 - KenyaSpeaks.com questions the government's "investigation" of Leonard Gakinya's suspicious hanging death. Then Kenya receives anonymous hate mail from a white supremacist. Jeff and Mary are helping Kenya to uncover the identity of the white supremacist.
April 15, 2003 - Jeff and Mary request subpoena forms from the Circuit Clerk, who tells them that "the judges got together and decided" that all subpoenas must now be filled out at the Circuit Clerk's office, before they are signed and served. But the Circuit Clerk refuses to give details about this "decision" or to put anything in writing. The timing and secrecy of this decision is suspicious, because Jeff and Mary's civil RICO petition names the circuit judge as a defendant, three Associate Judges as wrongdoers, and the Circuit Clerk as a wrongdoer. Prior to this decision, the Circuit Clerk mailed out blank signed subpoenas that could be served with confidentiality. The new subpoena procedure enables the Circuit Clerk to give advance warning to crucial but reluctant witnesses, thereby enabling them to evade their subpoenas. More mayhem in Mayberry, RFD.
April 25, 2003 - In preparation for a May 6 hearing with a new judge, Jeff and Mary file three Motions with the Court. The Motions ask for 1) permission to correct the caption on their RICO petition; 2) the right to issue subpoenas with confidentiality; and 3) protection from harassment, retaliation, and official negligence.
May 5, 2003 - The Ozark Gazette Free Press, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, is no longer in business. The Gazette was an important voice for honesty and fairness. We will miss the courageous work of Richard Drake and Cat Donnelly.
May 6, 2003 - Jeff and Mary's new judge tells them that their RICO petition was not served properly. The judge gives them until May 16 to serve the petition and schedules a pre-trial hearing for June 16. The judge advises Jeff and Mary that they need an attorney. Jeff responds that there are no attorneys in Missouri who are willing to confront drugs and corruption.
May 7, 2003 - Ozarkopathy.org presents a Jim Thomas cartoon, Missouri Traffick Court. Thomas has a keen understanding of Missouri's War on Meth.
May 14, 2003 - Jeff and Mary re-serve their civil RICO petition and subpoena eight witnesses for the June 16 hearing. Four of these witnesses fight the subpoena, because they are afraid to testify. Two witnesses say that they would rather go to jail than testify. Can you imagine such fear? What kind of state is Missouri?
May 15, 2003 - Ozarkopathy.org presents two new Jim Thomas cartoons: Missouri, The Hate State and Your Fool No More! Thomas' work belongs in national publications.
June 14, 2003 - Jeff and Mary learn that the circuit judge, who they are suing for witness tampering, anti-Semitism, and racketeering, is being represented by the Missouri Attorney General. In 2000, the MO AG refused to look at the Missouri Ethics Commission's investigation of this circuit judge. Why doesn't Missouri prosecute government corruption?
June 16, 2003 - Jeff and Mary attend the June 16 hearing. They subpoenaed eight witnesses, but only two show up. A crucial drug and corruption witness has three different excuses for not showing up. One witness who shows up has a doctor's note saying that testifying is too stressful for her. This witness previously told Jeff and Mary that she would rather go to jail than testify. Jeff and Mary are not allowed to interview the one remaining witness. The defendants are ordered to respond to Jeff and Mary's petition, and the next hearing is scheduled for August. Do you think Jeff and Mary can get justice in Missouri?
July 1, 2003 - Jeff and Mary are interviewed for two hours on radio by Frank Whalen of KXNA, 104.9 FM from Fayetteville, Arkansas. They discuss Ozarkopathy and their nightmare in southwest Missouri, including fraud, bigotry, assault, drugs, corruption, and cover-ups. The media in Missouri interview Jeff and Mary, but never report their story. Since Arkansas is willing to report Jeff and Mary's story, why won't Missouri? Are the media in Missouri afraid to report the news?
July 28, 2003 - Jeff and Mary uncover important new evidence of real estate fraud that further incriminates the defendants in their civil RICO case. The defendants file 13 motions asking the judge to dismiss the case. Jeff and Mary ask the judge for more time to respond to the defendants' motions. In 2002, an attorney with five partners told Jeff and Mary that his law firm is too small for this case. Do you think this is a fair contest?
July 31, 2003 - Satire Update: Scientists at the National Institutes of Health speculate that Ozarkus collusivus is a mutant strain of Americus corruptus. (see Public Health Alert)
August 22, 2003 - Ozarkopathy has a new page called Ozark Horror Stories or Ozarkus horribilis. These true stories document the extent of bigotry, corruption, and cover-ups in the Ozarks. Keep in mind that these stories are just the tip of the iceberg.
September 14, 2003 - Ozarkopathy presents a new Jim Thomas cartoon called "Americus corruptus - The World's Deadliest Virus." Jim suggests that political corruption is more dangerous than bioterrorism. Americus corruptus and Ozarkus collusivus are discussed on the satire "Public Health Alert."
September 30, 2003 - Jeff and Mary work night and day for two months in order to meet their legal deadline and file 13 motions with the court. The motions document patterns of bigotry, fraud, extortion, obstruction of justice, and cover-ups. For example, the Missouri AG and the Judicial Commission covered-up evidence that a circuit judge allegedly tampered with a drug witness. Here is the introduction to Jeff and Mary's motions: This is a complex and potentially explosive case to prosecute. This case is complex, because it has many tentacles; this case is explosive, because some of these tentacles are governmental. Perhaps that's why no government agency will investigate Plaintiffs' case. And perhaps that's why no attorney will accept Plaintiffs' case. But without any government prosecutors or private attorneys, Plaintiffs' evidence remains compelling. There is a serious break-down in law and order in this judicial circuit. Plaintiffs are neither government officials, nor attorneys, nor investigators. Plaintiffs are just outsiders, minorities, and victims, who feel duty-bound to pursue justice, even if that means being pro se. Plaintiffs respectfully ask this Honorable Court to do what the government and private attorneys are afraid to do -- to make difficult and unpopular decisions, even if that means exposing an epidemic of bigotry, fraud, drugs, corruption, and cover-ups.
November 25, 2003 - Jeff and Mary's hearing is scheduled for December 3rd at 9:30 am at the Barry County Judicial Center in Cassville, Missouri. This is an important hearing for Jeff and Mary, because the judge will rule if their lawsuit can proceed. This is also an important hearing for the State of Missouri, because Ozarkopathy is a reality that needs to be exposed.
December 3, 2003 - At the hearing, Jeff and Mary factually out-argue four opposing attorneys. Although the bank's attorney did not show up, argued by phone, and made false statements, the judge dismissed the bank as a defendant and ordered Jeff and Mary to pay the bank's legal fees. The Missouri Attorney General wants to represent the circuit judge who Jeff and Mary are suing for witness tampering. Curiously, the AG "got stuck in traffic" and didn't show up for the hearing. Since Jeff and Mary allege that the AG is covering up evidence, is it possible that the AG was afraid to show up?
December 15, 2003 - The Assistant Attorney General, who was "stuck in traffic" and didn't show up for the December third hearing, has now withdrawn from the case. However, a new Assistant AG has been assigned to represent the circuit judge who Jeff and Mary are suing for witness tampering. Perhaps the first Assistant AG had pangs of conscience?
December 17, 2003 - The Ramona Miller trial began today. Dr. Miller, a physician and member of the Greene County Medical Society, was violently arrested and incarcerated for a "traffic violation." Apparently, the police were upset that Dr. Miller has evidence of official misconduct. Now the Missouri Attorney General is prosecuting Dr. Miller for "resisting arrest," instead of prosecuting the police who abused her. Based on early reports about the trial, Dr. Miller's attorney is exposing police dishonesty. Are you surprised?
December 18, 2003 - Although there is a federal corruption probe of Illinois and Connecticut, the Feds give Missouri a pass. Do you know that U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft is from Missouri?
December 19, 2003 - Dr. Ramona Miller is convicted of resisting arrest and sentenced to six months in jail. The jury ignored the false testimonies of the deputies who arrested Dr. Miller and the obvious bias of the deputy who stated, "Ramona Miller was not welcome in that county." The jury also ignored the fact that the police were hostile towards Dr. Miller, because she had criticized their treatment of an inmate. If the case against Dr. Miller was so strong, why did the prosecutor ask the Missouri Attorney General for help? And why did the MO AG aid and abet the false testimonies of deputies? Apparently, Missouri retaliates against whistle-blowers like Dr. Miller. This case typifies the topsy-turvy justice of Missouri, in which victims are prosecuted, and perpetrators are defended. (For more facts about this story, visit WBF Legal Reform, which is listed on the Links page.)
December 29, 2003 - Jeff and Mary file a motion with the court asking the judge to reverse his dismissal of the bank as a defendant and to reverse his ruling that Jeff and Mary have to pay the bank's legal fees. Jeff and Mary allege that the judge's ruling is punitive and will deter other victims from filing RICO lawsuits. In support of their motion, Jeff and Mary are collecting affidavits.
February 20, 2004 - Jeff and Mary file a motion with the court asking the judge to reverse his January 22, 2004, ruling that the Missouri Attorney General can represent the circuit judge who Jeff and Mary are suing for witness tampering. Jeff and Mary's motion includes evidence that the MO AG, the Missouri Judicial Commission, and the U.S. Attorney's Office all covered-up evidence of the circuit judge's witness tampering. Jeff and Mary allege that the MO AG made false and misleading statements to the court and should be sanctioned. The state and federal cover-ups of the circuit judge's witness tampering epitomize the cronyism and corruption of the Ozarks.
March 18, 2004 - Jeff and Mary attend a debate at Southwest Missouri State University about including sexual orientation in the nondiscrimination policy. SMSU President John Keiser and General Counsel John Black argue against including sexual orientation. SMSU faculty members, Dr. Holly Baggett and Dr. Ralph Smith, argue for including sexual orientation.
Keiser argues that: 1) civil rights are already protected at SMSU; and 2) "If we all became gay tonight, the race would die out." Keiser's first statement is false. Jeff and Mary have affidavits from SMSU faculty that document patterns of discrimination against Jews, Blacks, and gays at SMSU. Keiser's second statement (which he repeated several times) is interesting, because it may reflect his unconscious fears or fantasies. Black takes advantage of the fact that he is the only attorney on the panel. He argues in a hypertechnical manner and tries to interrogate Baggett about her "nefarious agenda" of seeking rights for the partners of gay faculty.
Baggett discusses Keiser's 1995 letter to an SMSU donor, in which Keiser refers to homosexuality as a "biological perversion." Baggett points out SMSU's hypocrisy, in which sexual orientation is included when seeking accreditation, but excluded when establishing policy. Smith explains that SMSU has gay administrators and faculty who are afraid to come out of the closet. Baggett and Smith show great courage by publicly acknowledging their sexuality in order to advance gay rights.
Keiser, Black, Baggett, and Smith are a study in contrasts. Keiser and Black are angry, rigid, and defensive, while Baggett and Smith are warm, humorous, and humble. In essence, the debate is a clash between religious conservatives with reactionary views and liberals with progressive views. There's a large audience and a disturbingly large police presence. Is SMSU really concerned about violent protests? Or is SMSU sending a threatening signal to civil rights activists? Are you eager to work or study at SMSU?
April 19, 2004 - The judge does not respond to Jeff and Mary's evidence of cover-ups by the Missouri AG and Judicial Commission. Instead, the judge orders Jeff and Mary to file suggestions about the state court's jurisdiction of violations of federal law. Jeff and Mary research the subject of jurisdiction; file seven pages of facts, law, and analysis; and allege that the corruption and cover-ups in Missouri are a constitutional crisis, which must be addressed by the Missouri Supreme Court. Do you think the judge will accept jurisdiction of Jeff and Mary's evidence?
June 15, 2004 - Jeff and Mary file in court new evidence of an alleged scheme of commercial real estate fraud, extortion, corruption, and cover-ups in the Branson area. This alleged scheme involves some of the same defendants and tactics that Jeff and Mary expose in their RICO lawsuit. Obviously, racketeering is a thriving business in southwest Missouri. Before you vacation in Branson, make sure your life insurance policy is paid up.
June 26, 2004 - Ozarkopathy.org announces a new page called "Affidavit and Goliath." This page helps other victims of the Ozarks to create their own personal affidavit. Jeff and Mary created the name Affidavit and Goliath to emphasize the fact that most victims of the Ozarks are outnumbered, outmatched, and fighting a battle like David against Goliath.
July 8, 2004 - Jeff and Mary are interviewed for three hours by Frank Whalen on his program, Frankly Speaking, on Republic Broadcasting Network. Jeff and Mary discuss Ozarkopathy, including their new page "Affidavit and Goliath," which helps victims of corruption to fight back with affidavits. The discussion also includes the plight of Elena Sassower, Co-Founder and Coordinator of the Center for Judicial Accountability, Inc. Jeff and Mary urge the listeners to contact CJA and help liberate Elena from her false and malicious incarceration. See "Americus Corruptus" for Elena Sassower's story. See "Like Mother, Like Daughter" for Jeff and Mary's poem and song of tribute to Elena and her mother, Doris Sassower, attorney and Co-Founder of CJA. No matter what the government says, or what the media don't say, American citizens have a right and a patriotic duty to discuss corruption.
August 6, 2004 - Jeff and Mary attend a hearing for their pro se civil RICO lawsuit, and the judge rules on all pending motions. The judge rules in Jeff and Mary's favor on all motions, except for two: 1) the judge dismisses the bank as a defendant, and 2) the judge rules that the MO AG can represent the circuit judge who Jeff and Mary are suing for witness tampering and obstruction of justice. The judge's ruling about the MO AG is curious, because the MO AG filed false documents with the court and failed to show up for the last two hearings. Jeff and Mary allege that the MO AG is aiding and abetting a racketeering enterprise, violating civil rights, and making a mockery of justice. Ultimately, the judge must rule on whether or not the MO AG, and other agencies, are entitled to break the law and cover-up corruption. The trial is set for September, 2005.
September 6, 2004 - Southwest Missouri State University is looking for a new president. There's a rumor that Attorney General John Ashcroft is leaving the Bush Administration and returning to Springfield as the president of SMSU. Oh goody!
September 15, 2004 - The circuit judge, who Jeff and Mary are suing for witness tampering and obstruction of justice, has not responded to the petition within the required time. This means that the circuit judge is in default, and that Jeff and Mary can request a default judgment. The circuit judge's default raises serious questions about the Missouri Attorney General, who insisted that the circuit judge did nothing wrong.
September 20, 2004 - Jeff and Mary file a 30-page Fourth Amended Petition by Interlineation that adds the title insurance company to a count of conspiracy and a count of civil rights violations. This petition alleges that officers of the title insurance company conspired to defraud Jeff and Mary and protect a racketeering enterprise. Are you eager to buy real estate in southwest Missouri?
October 2, 2004 - Jeff and Mary add a new section on Ozarkopathy called "Audio Clips." This section includes a deputy cursing Jeff on the phone; the anti-Semitic death threat; and Like Mother, Like Daughter, a song of tribute to Doris and Elena Sassower of the Center for Judicial Accountability (CJA).
October 11, 2004 - Thanks to Vincent David Jericho of KSGF radio, the Guardian Angels are coming to Springfield, Missouri. Jericho is a new talk show host at KSGF who wants to fight bigotry, fraud, drugs, and corruption in southwest Missouri. The Guardian Angels empower private citizens to protect themselves from crime. Let's hope that the Guardian Angels assign a bodyguard to protect Jericho -- he'll need it!
October 19, 2004 - Jeff and Mary file a Motion for Default Judgment against the circuit judge, because the circuit judge failed to answer their pro se civil RICO petition, which alleges that the circuit judge engaged in witness tampering, obstruction of justice, and racketeering. Jeff and Mary have evidence that the circuit judge's misconduct was covered-up by state and federal agencies, including the Missouri Judicial Commission, the Missouri Attorney General (MO AG), the FBI, and the US Attorney's Office. Do you think the circuit judge is part of a state-sanctioned racketeering enterprise? Is the rest of America as corrupt as Missouri?
October 27, 2004 - The MO AG calls Jeff and Mary to ask if they will cancel their Motion for Default Judgment against the circuit judge, who they are suing for witness tampering. Jeff and Mary refuse.
November 1, 2004 - The MO AG asks the Court to deny Jeff and Mary's Motion for Default Judgment against the circuit judge. The MO AG claims that they failed to answer the petition, due to "confusion" and "reassignment" of attorneys. Do you know that the MO AG has 185 attorneys! Do you believe that the MO AG can't arrange for one attorney to attend hearings and respond to a petition?
December 15, 2004 - Jeff and Mary file a motion with the Court stating that the MO AG knows full well that the Ethics Commission's investigation confirmed that the circuit judge engaged in witness tampering, in order to protect meth suspects who defrauded, harassed, and assaulted Jeff and Mary. But instead of conducting an honest investigation and opening a Pandora's Box of corruption, the MO AG chose to conceal the corruption with misprision of felony and fraud upon the court, under color of law. In effect, the MO AG is making a mockery of justice in order to preserve and protect a racketeering enterprise that hides behind a facade of justice.
December 22, 2004 - The MO AG calls Jeff and Mary to ask if they will respond to the MO AG’s discovery requests, even though Jeff and Mary's Motion for Default Judgment has not been adjudicated. Jeff and Mary tell the MO AG that they will respond to the MO AG's discovery requests, if the MO AG will allow Jeff and Mary to have a copy of the Ethics Commission's investigation of the circuit judge. The MO AG refuses. Do you think the MO AG is hiding something?
January 15, 2005 - Ozarkopathy has a new poem -- it's called "Something." It's about a special "something" that Missouri is very fond of.
January 26, 2005 - Jeff and Mary file a 36-page Fifth Amended Petition and add a third attorney as a defendant. There is overwhelming evidence that the defendants colluded with each other to sabotage Jeff and Mary's pursuit of justice.
January 28, 2005 - Jeff and Mary expand Affidavit and Goliath to include the "Goliath Chart." The Goliath Chart shows how groups of people, including lawyers, gang up on unsuspecting victims. If you are David fighting Goliath, you need Affidavit and Goliath!
February 8, 2005 - It is both frightening and depressing to realize that the legal system in America is contaminated with corruption and cover-ups. If you have been to court, you already know this. After organizing all of your evidence, and spending thousands of dollars on attorneys, the judge rules against you, and you lose. Then you file complaints, but the government refuses to do anything, and blames you for the problem. Then you ask the media to report your story, but they refuse and tell you that there are thousands of stories like yours. So what do you do? Do you give up, or do you fight? And how do you fight? If you want to fight back, you must document your story. The best way to document your story is to create an affidavit, which is a written statement that you swear is true. If you are David fighting Goliath, you need Affidavit and Goliath.
April 14, 2005 - After eight long months, Jeff and Mary finally have a hearing to argue their case in open court and on the record. After two no-shows, the Missouri Attorney General finally shows up for a hearing. In fact, two Assistant Attorneys General show up! One AAG represents the circuit judge who Jeff and Mary are suing for witness tampering and racketeering. The other AAG represents the Real Estate Commission and the Ethics Commission, both of whom are concealing evidence of forgery, fraud, extortion, and witness tampering. The judge refuses to turn over this evidence to Jeff and Mary, but agrees to look at this evidence in private and then decide if the evidence can be made public. Jeff and Mary point out that the AG's office is systematically covering-up evidence of crimes, and that these cover-ups are themselves crimes. Do you think that the judge will turn over the crucial evidence to Jeff and Mary? Why is the MO AG trying to cover up so much crime?
April 20, 2005 - The Barry County Health Department (BCHD) writes a letter to Jeff and Mary, stating that Jeff and Mary's septic system is in violation, and that Jeff and Mary might be prosecuted and incarcerated for one year. Jeff and Mary call BCHD to discuss the "violation," but the Director refuses to communicate reasonably or answer any questions. Then Jeff and Mary's septic system expert calls BCHD to discuss the "violation," but once again, the Director refuses to communicate reasonably or answer any questions. Jeff and Mary's septic system expert creates an affidavit stating that the "violation" is a fabrication, and that BCHD is trying to scare Jeff and Mary. Do you think that BCHD is trying to drive Jeff and Mary away and get rid of their RICO lawsuit? What kind of "health department" is this?
May 13, 2005 - Jeff and Mary file in court a 17-page well-documented statement from a resident of Barry County. This statement was based on four hours of phone conversations that Jeff and Mary had with this resident. This statement corroborates Jeff and Mary's claim that Barry County is functioning as a racketeering enterprise, and that the State of Missouri is protecting this enterprise. The MO AG goes ballistic over this statement and accuses Jeff and Mary of bad faith and harassment. It sounds like Jeff and Mary hit the bulls-eye!
May 31, 2005 - Jeff and Mary file in court their 91-page Fifth Amended Petition. This petition names as defendants a title insurance company, a circuit judge, three attorneys, and an investigator in a six-count RICO lawsuit. Make sure you read this petition before you move to Barry County.
June 19, 2005 - It’s been two months since the judge in Jeff and Mary’s RICO lawsuit agreed to review, in private, the two closed files that Jeff and Mary subpoenaed. But so far, the judge has not made a ruling on either file. One file is the Ethics Commission’s investigation of the circuit judge who Jeff and Mary are suing for witness tampering. The other file is the Real Estate Commission’s phoney investigation of Jeff and Mary’s complaint. If the judge allows Jeff and Mary to have access to these closed files, Jeff and Mary will have proof that Missouri has systematically covered up evidence of fraud, extortion, and corruption. On the other hand, if the judge does not allow access to these closed files, it will look like the judge is covering up crucial evidence. Why is it taking the judge so long to decide if Jeff and Mary have a right to these closed files? Is the judge stalling?
June 20, 2005 - The U.S. Senate formally apologizes for decades of failing to enact anti-lynching legislation. Eighty senators vote for the apology, but 20 senators refuse to vote for the apology. Here are those 20 senators:
Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
Robert Bennett (R-UT)
Christopher Bond (R-MO)
Jim Bunning (R-KY)
Conrad Burns (R-MT)
Saxby Chambliss (R-GA)
Thad Cochran (R-MS)
Kent Conrad (D-ND)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Michael Crapo (R-ID)
Michael Enzi (R-WY)
Chuck Grassley (R-IA)
Judd Gregg (R-NH)
Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Trent Lott (R-MS)
Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
Richard Shelby (R-AL)
John Sununu (R-NH)
Craig Thomas (R-WY)
George Voinovich (R-OH)
It's not surprising to see Christopher Bond's name on the list. Missouri has a long and shameful history of racism and violence. In 1906, three innocent Black men were lynched in the public square of Springfield, Missouri. In 2002, Leonard Gakinya, a Black man from Kenya, was found hanging from a radio tower in Springfield, Missouri. The investigation of Gakinya's death was so flawed that it is clear Gakinya was lynched.
It's not surprising to see Saxby Chambliss' name on the list. In 2003, Senator Chambliss participated in a "lynching" of Elena Sassower, the Co-founder and Coordinator of the Center for Judicial Accountability. Chambliss arranged for Sassower to be arrested and incarcerated for the "crime" of respectfully requesting to testify in opposition to the appointment of a corrupt judge.
The crime of lynching is not limited to America's past. It is still happening, and it is still being covered up. Let's find out why these 20 U.S. Senators refused to vote for such humane legislation.
August 8, 2005 - The cover article of Newsweek is "The Meth Epidemic: Inside America's New Drug Crisis." Page 47 has a map of the US with the number of meth lab seizures in each state. Missouri is ranked first in meth lab seizures, and has more meth lab seizures than the second- and third-ranked states combined. The article does not discuss the problem of corruption. Do you think corruption is an important issue in drug trafficking? Do you think corruption is deeply entrenched in Missouri?
August 20, 2005 - Jeff and Mary investigate two "unsolved" murders in Lawrence County. In both murder cases, public officials systematically ignored and covered-up evidence. In one murder case, public officials fabricated evidence and framed an innocent man. Lawrence, Barry, and Stone Counties make up the 39th Judicial Circuit. Perhaps the TV show "Survivor" should test survival skills in the 39th Judicial Circuit.
December 9, 2005 - After eight months of stalling, the judge finally holds a hearing. It's no surprise that the judge rules against all of Jeff and Mary's pending motions. The judge rules against their motion to disqualify him, based on his concealing conflicts of interest, having secret talks with two defendants, demonstrating bias, and stalling. The judge quashes Jeff and Mary's subpoenas for the investigations conducted by the Ethics Commission and the Real Estate Commission, both of which document systemic corruption in Missouri. The judge dismisses the circuit judge, who Jeff and Mary are suing for witness tampering and racketeering. The judge rules that Jeff and Mary's petition fails to state a cause of action. The judge rules that the circuit court lacks jurisdiction. Despite all his decisive rulings, the judge refuses to explain or justify any of his rulings. Moreover, the judge claims that he can't recall facts and issues related to the case.
After the hearing, the judge tells Jeff and Mary the following anti-Semitic story:
People on the East Coast seem very unfriendly to me. You walk down the street and no one says hello, hello, like they do here. However, I was at a conference in New York once. I was staying at a hotel. Every time I walked through the lobby, people were very friendly to me and said hello. I learned that the people saying hello to me were Jewish. There was some kind of Jewish convention taking place at the hotel. I figured they said hello to me because I have a big nose, and they thought I was Jewish.
December 13, 2005 - Jeff and Mary file a complaint with the Judicial Commission against the judge for bias and prejudice. Jeff and Mary state that the judge's story includes three negative stereotypes: (1) Easterners are rude and unfriendly; (2) Jews have big noses; and (3) Jews stick together and only like other Jews. Do you think the Judicial Commission will discipline this judge? Please remember that Missouri is the Hate State.
January 6, 2006 - The judge, who told Jeff and Mary an anti-Semitic story, omits a crucial phrase from his Judgment and Order. By omitting this crucial phrase, the judge denies Jeff and Mary their right to appeal his rulings. Do you think this judge intentionally omitted this crucial phrase?
February - March, 2006 - Jeff and Mary ask the judge again and again to add the crucial phrase to his Judgment and Order. But the judge continues to ignore them. Finally, at the last minute, the judge adds the crucial phrase. Do you think this judge behaved honestly or responsibly? Would you like to have this judge in your lawsuit?
March 16, 2006 - The Judicial Commission gives the judge an "informal" admonition for telling Jeff and Mary an anti-Semitic story. The informal admonition is basically a private slap on the wrist. Do you think the Judicial Commission is serious about fighting bigotry?
April 19, 2006 - Jeff and Mary write a poem dedicated to their dear friend, Archie Lambeth, who died on April 15, 2006, from bone cancer caused by Agent Orange. Archie was an Army Ranger (Airborne) in Vietnam and served our country with courage and distinction. Archie will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
May 23, 2006 - Jeff and Mary's case is now on appeal at the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District. Jeff and Mary file a motion, requesting that the Court of Appeals issue subpoenas to the Missouri Ethics Commission, the Missouri Real Estate Commission, and the Barry County Associate Circuit Court. Jeff and Mary's 73-page motion documents patterns of forgery, fraud, extortion, anti-Semitism, witness tampering, obstruction of justice, corruption, and cover-ups committed by the Real Estate Commission, the Judicial Commission, and the Missouri Attorney General. Do you think there is systemic bigotry and corruption in Missouri? Do you think the Court of Appeals will issue the subpoenas?
June 15, 2006 - Jeff and Mary file a motion with the Missouri Court of Appeals, asking the judges to disclose all potential conflicts of interest. This motion is necessary, because Jeff and Mary have been subjected to a series of kangaroo courts, in which attorneys and judges have concealed conflicts of interest. The motion describes massive fraud, corruption, and cover-ups in Missouri. Do you think the judges on the Court of Appeals have conflicts of interest? Do you think these judges will disclose their conflicts of interest?
August 3, 2006 - The Missouri Court of Appeals denies Jeff and Mary's motion, which asks the judges on the Court of Appeals to disclose potential conflicts of interest. Jeff and Mary file an objection emphasizing that their RICO lawsuit documents patterns of fraud, corruption, and concealment of conflicts of interest. Do you think the judges on the Court of Appeals have conflicts of interest? Do you think the judges on the Court of Appeals are hiding something? Do you think the judges on the Court of Appeals have an agenda?
August 10, 2006 - Jeff and Mary file over 800 pages of documents with the Missouri Court of Appeals. Now the Court of Appeals will rule on Jeff and Mary's motion, which asks the Court of Appeals to issue subpoenas to the Missouri Ethics Commission, the Missouri Real Estate Commission, and the Barry County Associate Circuit Court. The information sought in these subpoenas can prove that there is systemic bigotry and corruption in Missouri. Do you think the Court of Appeals will issue these subpoenas? Do you think the Court of Appeals wants to root out bigotry and corruption in the Missouri Ozarks?
October 24, 2006 - The Ozarks receive well-deserved international print recognition. Harrison, Arkansas, and Springfield, Missouri, are listed in Dave Gilmartin's new book, The Absolutely Worst Places to Live in America. Ozarkopathy inspired Dave to include these two exemplars of Americana. If Dave comes to the Ozarks for a book signing, can he trust the local police to protect him? Or should he bring an armed bodyguard with federal connections?
March 15, 2007 - The Missouri Court of Appeals (COA) denies Jeff and Mary access to the records of the Missouri Real Estate Commission (REC) and the Missouri Ethics Commission (MEC). The REC records document that REC conducted an intentionally negligent investigation of Jeff and Mary's evidence, and covered up real estate fraud and forgery. The MEC records document that the Missouri Judicial Commission conducted an intentionally negligent investigation of Jeff and Mary's evidence, and covered up witness tampering and anti-Semitism committed by a circuit judge. Do you think that COA is helping REC and the Judicial Commission to cover up crimes ?
July 2, 2007 - Jeff and Mary file a well-documented petition with the Missouri Supreme Court (SC), which proves that the State of Missouri has engaged in patterns of anti-Semitic discrimination against Jeff, who is Jewish. Jeff and Mary's petition asks SC to order the Missouri Court of Appeals to disclose conflicts of interest (including Masonic membership), provide access to the anti-Semitic trial judge's notes, and provide access to the records of state agencies that covered up forgery, fraud, witness tampering, and anti-Semitism. Do you think that SC will side with the State of Missouri or with Jeff and Mary's 14th Amendment rights to due process and equal protection of the law?
August 15, 2007 - Jeff receives a jury questionnaire from the U.S. District Court in Kansas City. Jeff states that he cannot serve as an effective juror, because (a) he is a victim of fraud, extortion, racketeering, obstruction of justice, anti-Semitic discrimination, and violations of his 14th Amendment rights, perpetrated by the state and federal government of Missouri (including the FBI and the U.S. Attorney); and (b) he is a pro se plaintiff-appellant-relator in pending judicial proceedings CV-199-597-CC, SD27488, and SC88631.
August 20, 2007 - Jeff and Mary coin a term, "regionopathy," which means that different geographical regions have unique kinds of social pathology. For example, Ozarkopathy is a unique type of "mountainopathy." Other kinds of regionopathy include "borderopathy," "coastalopathy," "riveropathy," "desertopathy," forestopathy," and "valleyopathy." Perhaps sociologists should study the various regions of the United States and describe the various kinds of social pathology characteristic of each region. Do you think that Missouri State University in Springfield wants to study Ozarkopathy?
August 21, 2007 - The Missouri Supreme Court denies Jeff and Mary’s petition for writ of mandamus. This means that the Court of Appeals doesn't have to disclose conflicts of interest or give Jeff and Mary access to the records of the Real Estate Commission, the Ethics Commission, and the notes of the trial judge, who told Jeff and Mary an anti-Semitic story about Jews having big noses. Are you surprised that the Supreme Court denied Jeff and Mary's petition? Do you think that Jeff and Mary's opponents have powerful political connections?
November 29, 2007 - After working for 90 days and spending hundreds of hours, Jeff and Mary finally file their brief with the Court of Appeals, and ask for oral argument. Now, Jeff and Mary's opponents have 30 days to respond. Do you think that Jeff and Mary will prevail at the Court of Appeals?
November 30, 2007 - Jeff and Mary's United States Senator refers their evidence to the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, who in turn, refers their evidence to the Executive Office of the United States Attorney’s Office (EOUSAO). Guess what? Surprise, surprise! EOUSAO responds with an unsigned, undated letter that doesn't even mention Jeff and Mary's evidence. Do you think that the drug corruption in Missouri is being protected by Washington, DC?
July 7, 2009 - Jeff and Mary uncover evidence of more civil rights violations committed by the Barry County Sheriff's Office (BCSO). At the very same time that BCSO aided and abetted anti-Semitic hate crimes against Jeff and Mary, BCSO repeatedly used a Taser gun against a disabled female prisoner who had already been handcuffed, leg-shackled, hogtied, and blindfolded. This suggests that BCSO has a policy or practice of brutality and civil rights violations. Are you eager to move to Barry County? Do you think BCSO is being protected by the state and federal government?
June 9, 2010 - Winter's Bone wins Best Picture at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival Award. USA Today says that Winter's Bone "defies easy labels." Actually, Winter's Bone is a story of Ozarkopathy - the sickness of the Ozarks.
May 1, 2012 - Full Disclosure Network® presents a 3-minute video trailer of a documentary movie entitled "The Cost of Courage" based on a three-year television interview series covering California Court Corruption and the 18-month-long solitary "coercive confinement" of 70-year-old former U.S. Prosecutor Richard I. Fine. The trailer features clips from the movie with actor Ed Asner who is the narrator, Richard Fine, Rabbi Chaim Mentz, along with Mary Ellen and Tory Fine.
